The short answer
Kit, formerly ConvertKit, separates subscriber creation from adding that subscriber to a form. Use a workflow that performs the required steps and preserves subscription preferences. Verify the intended form, status, and email rather than assuming a record means delivery.
Treat subscriber creation and form signup as separate steps
To connect a Pageree signup page to Kit, formerly ConvertKit, use a workflow that creates or finds the subscriber, associates the correct Kit form or tag, and verifies the promised email. A stored subscriber record is not proof that a resource email or welcome sequence ran.
This guide describes a configuration to implement and test in your own accounts. It is not a native Pageree Kit app, and no subscriber or incentive email was created during this article’s research. A Kit-hosted signup form may be the simpler route when you do not need a custom Pageree form.
Identify the real destination and consent journey
Confirm the Kit account, form ID, any tag IDs, and the intended subscription process. Name what the visitor requested: newsletter issues, a particular resource, or both with appropriate wording. Do not route a general business enquiry into a marketing sequence merely because an email was collected.
Kit’s current subscriber endpoint is POST https://api.kit.com/v4/subscribers. It behaves as an upsert by email. The documented request uses email_address, optional first_name, and approved custom fields under fields. The state parameter affects a newly created subscriber; this endpoint is not a general way to change an existing subscriber’s state.
| Workflow step | Endpoint or mapping |
|---|---|
| Create or find subscriber | POST /v4/subscribers with email_address |
| Preserve reply name | data.first_name → first_name, if collected |
| Add existing subscriber to form | POST /v4/forms/{form_id}/subscribers with email_address |
| Optional source context | Map an approved page/referrer value to referrer for the form request |
| Custom fields | Use keys already verified in the account |
Kit documents form association by email separately and requires that the subscriber already exist. It also has an ID-based route. Do not assume that posting an unknown email to a form will perform the first step for you.
Use automation to manage the sequence
Pageree sends one configured HTTP request per delivery attempt. It does not read a response and then issue a second call. Send the default payload to a Make scenario or Zapier workflow that performs the Kit operations in order and records their results.
For personal API-key requests, the documented header is X-Kit-Api-Key: <key> with JSON content. Use Kit’s supported OAuth connection when your automation provides one. Keep credentials in secure settings. Do not put keys in the page, a copied build prompt, or browser-side JavaScript.
Make the new-subscriber state explicit in the reviewed workflow. Kit defaults to active in the create endpoint; that default is not a substitute for deciding the intended confirmation process. Do not attempt to override existing cancelled or bounced states through guessed fields. Inspect response warnings and verify custom fields because a successful request alone may not establish every intended value.

Route the signup form on Pageree page [page ID] into Kit.
Account/form: [verified non-secret identifiers].
Requested content: [newsletter or named resource].
Consent and confirmation flow: [approved process].
Use [automation webhook] to create/find the subscriber and then
associate the intended form or approved tag through supported steps.
Read the current Kit v4 docs and actual published form schema.
Map email, optional first name, and verified custom-field keys.
Preserve existing subscription preferences. Keep authentication
server-side. Show the workflow and state choices before enabling it.
List tests for a new subscriber, existing subscriber, form association,
and the actual incentive/resource email. Do not invent test results.
Test the email promise through to receipt
Configure the Kit form’s incentive and confirmation settings deliberately. Kit’s bulk form-association reference describes incentive emails for double-opt-in forms and notes that a subscriber already associated with that form does not receive the same incentive again through that operation. Verify the exact behavior of the route your workflow uses rather than assuming every repeat submission sends another download.
After publication, submit a marked test address you control. Inspect the subscriber record, state, correct form, optional tags, confirmation email, and accessible resource. Repeat with an existing subscriber and check that expected preferences remain intact. If the incentive does not arrive, troubleshoot that stage separately from subscriber creation.
A successful webhook can hide a failed downstream Kit action. Monitor automation errors and store operation results for recovery. Pageree’s email fallback and 30-day accepted-lead backup do not complete the Kit sequence automatically. Use the newsletter template to align the success message with the verified journey before inviting real subscribers.
